For those of you who enjoy curling up to a great television program at the end of a long day know that we are living in a time of amazing choices. If you have a DVR you might often find yourself having to prioritize what you are going to record because there is so much great content available.

Yes, we do indeed live in an amazing time when it comes to television programming. As 2009 is close to wrapping up, let us look back on some of the amazing homeland project free tv series that were provided to us over the past year.

The Mentalist – CBS

First airing in September of 2008, The Mentalist has shown tremendous success both in the amazing shows the team has produced as well as the ratings it has received. The premise of the show surrounds a team of CBI (California Bureau of Investigations) agents and their quest to solve crimes.

Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) leads a team of agents that work for the CBI. Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) assists the team in solving cases using his talents as a Mentalist. His ability to read people and get to the true cause and motives of the crimes is truly a pleasure to watch.

Patrick Jane is not officially a CBI agent but is helping the CBI because he wants to put away Red John, the murderer who killed his wife and daughter. The Red John Storyline has continued since the inception of the show and provides for some truly haunting episodes. It will be interesting to watch this and many other plots unfold on The Mentalist.

Glee – Fox

Another bright spot in the 2009 lineup has been the musical comedy Glee. The cast and musical scores make each show a remarkable production similar to a Broadway Musical. Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) is the head of the glee club at McKinley High. Having been a musical performer during his high school years, he wants to bring back the joy of singing to his current students. Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) is the head of the Cheerios (cheerleading squad) and is a thorn in the side of Will Schuester. The comedy between the two of them alone is worth tuning into this show for. The singers on this show are truly remarkable as they take current and classical music and truly bring it to life. The show also does an amazing job tackling the current issues going on for teenagers in high school.

The Big Bang Theory – CBS

Leave it to a bunch of scientific nerds and a beautiful actress to capture America’s heart in The Big Bang Theory on CBS. The show is written and produced by the talented Chuck Lorre (of Two and a Half Men) and Bill Prady (of Gilmore Girls). The show is centered on four friends who work together at a University in the science department. Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki – of Rosanne) is the leader of the quirky bunch and is romantically involved with his neighbor Penny (Kaley Cuoco – of 8 Simple Rules). Leonard’s roommate Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) is the anal and eccentric comedic genius behind the shows success. The story lines are very current yet intelligent as Lorre continues with his exceptional writing ability. The Big Bang Theory is definitely a show that will take your mind off of the everyday.
